Medicine Hat High School is taking the baseball diamond to the classroom and the inception of the Medicine Hat High School Baseball Institute is set to open in the fall of 2016.
Our program is an opportunity for kids to really develop their skills. The Baseball Institute is a big proponent of having multi-sport athletes. Students will enroll in the class which will be 2 periods during the school day, then if you’re a football, basketball or volleyball player, you can go after school and play another sport as well.
The involvement extends past that of just Mohawks baseball players, the Institute will be open to female students with a knack for time on the diamond as well.
While preference will be given to players with baseball experience the class is open to females as well. Softball players who want to improve their game and develop their skills are welcome to be part of the program. The baseball team and the institute are two different entities.
The Hat High Baseball Institute will be aimed at creating better all-around athletes, specifically on the ball diamond and the classroom component will focus on allowing those athletes to see the game from different perspectives while becoming active members of their community.
Modules such as coaching, nutrition, weight training and leadership will be part of the classroom. We are building better athletes as well and better citizens.
The institute’s inaugural year will conclude with a field trip to Kelowna where the class will compete as a team against some premier talent while learning the opportunities baseball can provide past the high school level.
